Since the year 2008 there has been a yearly survey conducted by David Mihm regarding local search ranking factors. He is an expert when it comes to search ranking. He has been working in the field since the early 2000’s. The surveys purpose was to identify what the factors really are to determine the reasons why. The results of the survey help to pin point what works best. The information collected shows what you can do to get your website up there in that number one position.

The local search is a complex thing. With each passing year the complexity increases. There are so many things that affects local search ranking.

Factors Influenced By Pigeon…

Those who did best according to the data collected were those who had domain authority. Those who had proximity to a search also did very well. It seems though that those who had an address on the city of search did not do very well. Neither did those that had proximity to centroid.

Desktop and Mobile Results…

Last year when the survey was conducted people who took it reported that there really wasn’t much of a difference, if any at all between desktop and mobile results. This year when the survey was conducted people were asked to rate both localized organic results and pack results.

On Page Signals…

On page signals got 21.0 percent when the survey was analyzed. Things like domain authority, presence of keywords, and NAP were included. On page signals had the best results.

Link Signals…

Link signals got 18.3 percent. Still pretty good. The quantity and authority of domain linking was included as was inbound anchor text.

External Loc. Signals…

External loc. signals got 15.5 percent. Citation volume, and NAP consistency are important factors in local search ranking.

My Business Signals…

My business signals got 14.7 percent. This could be improved. They are though an important factor in ranking high.

Review Signals…

9.8 percent was credited to review signals. Review quantity, diversity, and velocity were are included. The survey shows that review signals are not a large factor when it comes to local search ranking.

Personalization…

8.4 percent to personalization. Personalization is not a significant factor. 8.4 is a very low percentage.

Behavioral/mob Signals…

Behavioral/mob signals got 6.9 percent. Obviously they are not a very big factor either. These factors with low percentages are the least helpful in helping you to rank high.

Social Signals…

Social signals can in as the least effecting factor getting 5.8 percent. Again, that’s very low. Spend you time and efforts on the factors that really make a difference.

Ranking High…

Those are the ten top contributing factors associated with local search ranking. The factors that received a higher percentage are the factors that you need to learn more about. Use the information produced from this survey to increase both your knowledge and rank! The people who hold that number one position already know what the most contributing and important factors are. This survey proves what they are. You too can get that number one position if you put this information to use.
