Internet marketing experts all around the world agree that building an email list is one of the most effective forms of Internet marketing. Social media marketing and link building can certainly help people to increase their traffic, as can growing an email list. However, the people who are going to get the most traction from their online marketing efforts are going to be the people who succeed at growing email lists.
For one thing, people have a tendency to display their social media icons very prominently on their websites. However, they do not always do this when it comes to encouraging people to sign up to receive email updates. The sign-up forms for the email updates are going to need to become even more prominent compared to the social media icons if the website owners in question really want to be able to get results.
Pop-up sign up forms
People are now accustomed to visiting websites and finding that the moment the website loads, they are going to get an pop-up form that encourages them to subscribe in order to receive email updates. While people’s opinions on these forms are going to vary, it should be noted that these forms have been shown to work very effectively especially if you offer something that your visitors would want for free. Creating as little work as possible for one’s potential visitors really can make all the difference in the world. When people have the entry forms prominently presented in front of them, they’re going to be that much more willing to fill them in and engage with the community.
Create a landing page and drive paid traffic to it
One way successful marketers generate a high number of sign ups is by creating a dedicated landing page with a good offer (free ebook, discount offers, contest, white paper) and drive paid, well-targeted social media traffic to it. This, of course, can get expensive but what you can do is to lower your advertising costs that you send an automated email to all your new sign ups with a product or service sales offer. Mailchimp has a great email service that you can use and build into your landing page.
Hosting a contest
It’s also a good idea to create incentives for people to show up and sign up for the mailing list. One of the ways to do this is by hosting a contest. If it’s a contest that people are going to need to enter through email, they’re going to be that much more likely to do it. Unsubscribing after the contest is going to be less common, since people are more likely to just continue to allow themselves to receive email updates. Getting them onto an email list through a contest is a good way to get them hooked. Charity giveaways and similar events can accomplish the same thing.
Offer a free eBook, Whitepaper, coupon etc.
Of course, people are going to respond favorably to content that is useful to them. Publishing a newsletter or something similar and releasing it to the email subscribers is really going to help them feel as if there is a good reason for them to be members of the community. Reciprocity is a good portion of successful Internet marketing.
